Kantar: most people are looking to buy a 5G phone as shoppers return to stores

Two thirds of people that plan to buy a new phone in the next 6 months will be looking for a 5G model, shows data by Kantar. That is the average around the world, in China a whopping 91% of people want a 5G phone. Care to guess which country has the lowest demand for next-gen networking? It’s Japan with only 55% of future buyers looking for 5G.

Google parent company’s Q2 earnings posts over $61 billion in revenue

Google’s parent company Alphabet posted its earnings report for the quarter ending in June on Tuesday. The company surpassed expectations from Wall Street of $56.23 billion revenue and reached $61.88 billion for its fiscal Q2 of 2021. This accounts for a 62% increase compared to the same quarter in 2020. In particular, Google ad revenues have increased by 69% YoY.

Samsung’s Galaxy A52 is getting the August 2021 Android security patch already

There are still a few days left for July to end, but Samsung has already started releasing the August 2021 Android security patch for its smartphones, with the Galaxy A52 (SM-A525F) being the first in line to get it.

The new firmware that brings the August 2021 security patch to the Galaxy A52 has version number A525FXXU3AUG4 and is currently seeding in Caucasus countries, Germany, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine, but the rollout should expand to more regions soon.

Google is working on a “Switch to Android” app for iOS

In 9to5Google’s latest ‘APK Insight’, the latest version of an Android component called “Data Restore Tool” has been identified with new code hinting at a new app. It’s likely that Google may be looking to make a “Switch to Android” app for the iOS App store just like Apple has a “Move to iOS” app for Android.

For context, the way that Google currently switches iOS users to Android is to back up contacts, calendar events, and photos to Google Drive. Then, when the same Google account is added to a new Android device, the content is accessed through the respective apps.

Apple reports record earnings in latest quarter with 50% YoY increase in iPhone sales

Apple has just posted its Q3 results and the tech giant has performed marvelously. Apple’s revenue has gone up 36% YoY, totaling $81.41 billion for the quarter. iPhone revenue alone went up almost 50% and accounted for $39.57 billion while services were up 33% with $17.48 billion.

There won’t be a OnePlus 9T or OnePlus 9T Pro, rumor has it

Over the past few years OnePlus has gotten us used to a twice-yearly cadence for flagship launches – one occurring in the first part of the year, another in the fall, when a “T” branded device or two would appear.
