Apple releases iOS 14.7 with support for the MagSafe battery pack

Today Apple has released iOS 14.7 to all supported iPhones, although as of yet it hasn’t also sent out the corresponding iPadOS 14.7 update to its tablets, which is weird, because these usually go out together. Anyway, by the time you read this the iPadOS 14.7 update may already be on its way, but it wasn’t at the time of writing.

iOS 14.7 brings support for the MagSafe battery pack that the company quietly released a few days ago. This is compatible with the iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max.

The new software also introduces an Apple Card Family feature which lets you…

Xiaomi Mi 9 is now receiving the MIUI 12.5 update based on Android 11

Xiaomi is moving on ahead with its updates to MIUI 12.5, and the latest phone to be graced with this version of the skin is the Mi 9 in Europe. It’s actually a double celebration for Mi 9 owners, because not only is the phone getting MIUI 12.5, but the underlying Android version has changed too, jumping from Android 10 to Android 11.

It’s a big one, then, both figuratively and literally – the download is 2.4GB, so if you’re on a capped data plan make sure you use Wi-Fi to grab it.

The new build is labeled MIUI V12.5.1.0.RFAEUXM, and as we mentioned already (and that “EU” in the name…

CIRP: Apple and Android are tied at 50% new activations in the US in Q2

Apple accounted for half of US phone activations in the months April through June, per a report from the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).

This is the first time in a long while where Apple is able to match Android in the second quarter, with the Google OS normally accounting for around 60% of new activations in the period.

Mike Levin, co-founder of CIRP, says this is due to loyalty and switching – iPhone users have a higher 93% loyalty, compared to 88% for Android users. And iPhone users are more likely to buy another iPhone than to switch over to Android.
