Our video review of the Realme X7 Max 5G / GT Neo is now up

A short while back we reviewed Realme’s current top of the line smartphone, the GT, but the company has also created a spinoff of sorts in the GT Neo. At least that’s the name in China, for Realme has launched the exact same device in India as the X7 Max 5G.

It shares most of the features with the GT, save for the chipset, which in this case is MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200, incidentally that chip maker’s top of the line offering right now. We were excited to put the X7 Max 5G through the paces of our review process at the office since this is the first smartphone powered by this chipset that…

The Sony Xperia 1 III will launch in Europe in August, the Xperia 5 III gets delayed to September

Sony announced pre-orders for its Mark III flagships in Europe last week, but it was a false start and pre-orders were taken down a few days later. Now, they are back on again and we have some bad news.

Some good news first. The Sony Xperia 1 III will become available for pre-order in Germany on July 15 and should start shipping on August 31. At least that’s when the pre-order bonus ends, the press release doesn’t actually name a shipping date (originally, the 1 III was planned to ship on August 6). The phone will cost €1,300 and you’ll get a free pair of WH-1000XM3 noise canceling…

TikTok videos are becoming longer

TikTok is currently the major social media platform for sharing short 60-second videos, but from the start of Q2 2021 creators will have even more time for their videos.

In an official message, Drew Kirchhoff, Product Manager at TikTok, has revealed the service will be rolling out the option to create longer videos of up to three minutes.

Creators have been talking to TikTok, revealing they need a bit more extra time to bring their content to life without splitting it into videos like “like and follow for part 2”. The feature has already been tested with some users, but it is now…

Next year’s iPhone will use a 4nm chipset, the iPad Pros will get more advanced 3nm chips

The current Apple A14 and M1 chipsets are both fabbed on the same 5nm TSMC node, but the two product lines are set to diverge next year – the iPhone 14 chipset will be manufactured on a 4nm node, while the next major M-series chip release will be based on the more advanced 3 nm node, according to Nikkei Asia.

For context, let’s look at what is coming later this year. The A15 chipset for the iPhone 13 is being manufactured on the revamped N5P node at TSMC, which offers a 5% increase in clock speed or a 10% reduction in power compared to N5. The M1X is also expected to use N5P. Apple will…
