Samsung and NatGeo use a Galaxy S21 Ultra to record 8K underwater video of tiger sharks

Last year Samsung published an 8K video from the Arctic Circle shot on a Galaxy S20+. However, the phone stayed above the freezing waters. This year the company partnered with National Geographic Traveller India to do the opposite – capture 8K footage beneath the warm waters of the Maldives.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra was in the hands of NatGeo Explorer Malaika Vaz, who traveled to Fuvahmulah Island, aka Shark Island. The phone was used to shoot 8K footage and photos, which were used in the video below.

A few things to know before you attempt such a dive. First, Vaz is a…

Apple secures more mini-LED suppliers, 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros are on track to launch in September

It seems that Apple has gotten its ducks in a row and has secured two more suppliers for mini-LED panels that will be used in the upcoming 14” and 16” MacBook Pros. Earlier this month, DigiTimes reported that Osram Opto Semiconductors has been signed, now the publication adds that Zhen Ding Technology and Tripod Technology have joined the supply chain. Or rather they expanded their roles in it.

Zhen Ding is already supplying Apple with mini-LED backlight boards for the iPad Pro 12.9 (2021), the company’s first device to use a mini-LED display. Zhen Ding is reportedly in the process of…

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3’s ultrawide camera will get autofocus

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3’s ultrawide camera will get autofocus

We’ve heard Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold3 won’t bring a major update in the camera department, but now we get some more specific details on its hardware.

The leak suggests that the back will once more feature a trio of 12MP shooters, but unlike the Fold2’s setup the ultrawide unit will offer PDAF (Phase detection autofocus).

The internal selfie camera, which will reside under the panel will sport a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor with 1.0µm pixels and will be 1/3.09″ in size. The front panel (when folded) selfie cam will use the same 10MP IMX374 sensor as the Fold2.
