MWC Barcelona 2021 Overview

Another Mobile World Congress in Barcelona came and went and we’ve gathered the more memorable developments from this year’s edition. The two biggest announcements from the event came from Samsung and Qualcomm.

The South Koreans detailed their One UI Watch interface which is now based on Google’s Wear OS and will debut on the Galaxy Watch4 series sometime next month. It brings a seamless experience for Galaxy phone users with simultaneous app downloads sync with your phone, a larger app portfolio and improved watch face designs.

vivo S10 spotted on Geekbench, confirms Dimensity 1100 SoC

vivo S10 first leaked a couple of days ago and now the phone can also be found in Geekbench’s database with a model number V2121A confirming the Dimensity 1100 SoC.

The listing also confirms the 12GB RAM variant. The previous leak also mentioned an 8GB version.

The listing doesn’t reveal much aside from the already known and mentioned specs but it’s certainly be signaling a nearing launch or announcement.

Realme has introduced the Dizo GoPods D and Dizo Wireless earphones during the first product launch of its new sub-brand. The event also saw the announcement of a Beard Trimmer, Hair Dryer and a pair of wired earphones under the Buds brand.

Google will require new apps on the Play Store to use App Bundles instead of APKs

Lines are being drawn in the sand – starting in August, Google will require that new apps listed on its Play Store are published in the Android App Bundle (AAB) format, instead of the APK format that has been a part of the OS since its inception.

Why does that matter? Well, right now only the Google Play Store supports App Bundles. That’s right, the Amazon Appstore, which will be the default Android app store on Windows 11 does not. And neither do the third-party app stores that will be natively supported in the upcoming Android 12 update.

The Oppo Reno6 5G and Reno6 Pro 5G introduced in May in China will begin their global rollout this month, starting with India, on July 14.

Oppo had also announced the Reno6 Pro+ 5G in May, but there’s no word yet on whether it will be launched in India alongside the vanilla and Pro models.
