Flashback: the phones styled after Beyonce, American Idol, X-Factor and Fender

Last year Samsung made a splash with the Galaxy S20+ 5G BTS Edition (and Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition), but that’s no surprise – BTS is one of the best-known music acts around the world right now and everything they touch draws in crowds of fans (even if it’s a McDonalds meal). But this was far from the company’s first attempt to use music superstars to promote its gadgets.

Back in 2007 Samsung (and Sprint) released the Beyonce-themed B’Phone, a limited edition version of the Samsung UpStage M620. The phone had two sides – a simple-looking feature phone and a media player with a music…

Weekly poll: what does your dream foldable phone look like?

Weekly poll: what does your dream foldable phone look like?

It feels like foldable phones are on the brink of becoming mainstream. It probably won’t happen this year as prices are still too high (and the chip shortage isn’t helping), but foldable may become the default form factor for a flagship in the next couple of years, while rigid phones get relegated to the mid-range.

Again, price is obviously a major concern. You probably have other considerations too, like the durability of the device or getting features that are standard on regular flagships, but are still rare on foldables.

The camera selection is usually less than inspiring – the…

Sony Xperia Pro in for review

Sony Xperia Pro in for review

Say hello to the Sony Xperia Pro, part concept phone, part Xperia 1 II with a specific purpose – to partner with Sony’s pro lineup of cameras and stream video over mmWave 5G.

The Sony Xperia Pro is basically an Xperia 1 II with textured plastic frame, instead of aluminum and glass, an added HDMI port, mmWave 5G and a comes in a single 12/512GB version, priced at $2,500.

That kind of price tag may suggest a lavishly packed retail box, but that’s far from the case. The Xperia Pro comes with an 18W charger and USB cable, and that’s it – no case, no camera-related accessories like a mount,…

Weekly poll results: the independent Honor is off to a good start with the Honor 50 series

Weekly poll results: the independent Honor is off to a good start with the Honor 50 series

Last week’s poll shows that Honor’s independent life is off to a good start – 65% of participants voted in favor of the three Honor 50 series modes. Or should we say two of the models.

The Honor 50 Pro emerged as the clear favorite with 100W fast charging, large 6.72” display and an ultrawide selfie camera. At least those are the advantages it holds over its siblings, which share features like the 108MP main and 8MP ultrawide cameras on the back.

The Honor 50 proved decently popular as well. It is cheaper, but has the same Snapdragon 778G chipset and decently fast 66W charging too….

Oppo Band Style Review

Oppo Band Style Review

Oppo is mainly known as a smartphone brand, but the company’s product portfolio includes wireless earphones, smart TVs, and smartwatches as well. Oppo also launched its first smartband last year, called the Oppo Band, followed by a facelift version called the Oppo Band Style.

The Oppo Band Style is basically the regular Band coming with an extra strap in the box, with the rest of its highlights including an AMOLED panel, real-time heart rate monitoring, and the usual set of features you find on any other fitness band in this price range.

Alongside the extra strap, the feature that…

Telegram adds group video calls and animated backgrounds

Telegram adds group video calls and animated backgrounds

Telegram has announced a couple of significant updates to its messaging client across different platform. The first is a pretty significant upgrade to video calling and the other is to the UI and design.

The video calling side of things in Telegram is getting lots of new changes, many of which seem inspired by Apple’s updates to FaceTime during WWDC 2021.

Telegram now gets group video call support. Users have to initiate a group voice call and then tapping the camera icon will automatically place you in a group video call. While there are no limits to the number of group voice…
