Samsung introduces LPDDR5 uMCP that brings flash and RAM on the same chip

Samsung introduced its latest memory solution today, called LPDDR5 UFS-based multichip package, or uMCP. It integrates LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 NAND flash on a single chip, which promises to deliver flagship-level performance on a smartphone with a mid-range chipset.

Samsung’s LPDDR5 uMCP will enable consumers to “enjoy uninterrupted streaming, gaming, and mixed reality experiences even in lower-tier devices”, said Young-soo Sohn, VP of the Memory Product Planning Team at Samsung.

Apple Music’s Android app gets Spatial and Lossless Audio

During this year’s WWDC, Apple announced a couple of neat features for its music streaming service, including Lossless and Spatial Audio. And these features are now making their way to the Android Apple Music app as well, although limited to beta testers for now.

The description does mention that only compatible devices could make use of the Spatial Audio and thousands of Dolby Atmos-ready tracks currently available. There’s a Dolby Atmos badge on the album page to let you know that the tracks are compatible. The same goes for Lossless Audio.

OnePlus Nord N200 5G listed by retailer, pre-orders begin June 25

Last month, OnePlus CEO Mr. Pete Lau confirmed that the company will soon launch the Nord N200 5G, which will be exclusive to the US and Canada. He didn’t reveal the unveiling date, but the smartphone has been listed on B&H Photo’s website with official-looking images and a price tag of $239.99.

While that price may well be a placeholder, the retailer says you’ll be able to pre-book one starting June 25, which seems too specific and is likely more accurate.

Honor Magic Fold incoming as company looks to introduce its own foldable flagship

A new report by Display Supply Chain gives us a glimpse of what’s to come in the foldable smartphone segment. And arguably the most interesting part is that Honor is readying a foldable handset of its own, likely called Magic Fold.

The device is said to use BOE and Visionox’ in-folding panels and will make it to the market towards the end of this year. Before that, however, vivo and Xiaomi are expected to release their contenders with Samsung’s new UTG panel. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 rumored to go on sale on August 27

Last week, rumors broke out that Samsung might announce its Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 anywhere between August 3 – 27 but now Korean news outlet Yonhap News Agency is bringing more clarity on the matter.
