Samsung has, just hours ago, confirmed long-standing rumors that its future smartwatches will ditch Tizen and run Wear OS instead, but it turns out there was more to the story.

At Google IO it has transpired that in fact, Google and Samsung are joining forces to make Wear OS great again. Or rather, be great for the first time since its inception. For this, it will need to pair its app ecosystem with good battery life, something Samsung knows a thing or two about.

Following Google’s announcement of Android 12 , Realme was quick to confirm that its flagship Realme GT will be among the first devices to gain access to the latest Android release.

Samsung confirms it’s moving its Galaxy Watch to Wear OS

Samsung Vice President and head of software development Janghyun Yoon has issued a statement, confirming that future Galaxy Watches will indeed run Google’s Wear OS, instead of Tizen OS.

The confirmation comes following months of speculation and rumors, which at first seemed downright impossible and which got more serious as time went on.

Yoon doesn’t give any specifics about what smartwatches Samsung has in the pipeline, but adds that current Tizen OS smartwatches will have three-year support from the product’s launch.
