Weekly poll: is the Asus Zenfone 8 the small phone for you or would you like a Zenfone 8 Flip?

Truly tiny flagships may never return, but over the last couple of months a couple of relatively small models did appear. The latest is the Asus Zenfone 8, which has a 5.9” display with 20:9 aspect ratio and a punch hole selfie camera. Its dimensions are 148×68.5×8.9mm, that’s as small as Android flagships get at the moment.

And it’s down to the basic design choices made by Asus, which contrast with Sony’s choices for the Xperia 5 III – a 6.1” display with a taller 21:9 aspect ratio and classic bezels (with camera and all, making them thicker). That makes the phone 157x68x8.2mm in size….

Gaming phones are not for everyone, but last week’s poll shows that if you want one, the Redmi K40 Gaming is a great pick. It stands apart from the rest of the K40 family (itself fairly popular) with a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset replacing the Snapdragons.

It’s been 7 years since Asus launched its Zenfone series and we now have the latest additions with the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip. The past two years saw a few very exciting devices by the brand with the Zenfone 6 and Zenfone 7 series and while it’s too early to say if that will be the case with the newly launched phones we can still go over what we liked and what rubbed us the wrong way with the two new Asus phones.

Leica is looking for a new smartphone partner, eyeing Xiaomi and Honor

According to inside sources, the Huawei-Leica partnership is coming to an end, with the P50 series being the last handsets from the company carrying the Leica branding. The information comes from a series of tweets posted by a fairly renowned tipster focusing on Huawei intel.

He also suggests that Leica is looking for a new smartphone OEM partner and Xiaomi, Honor and Sharp are likely candidates. And why not all of them? A non-exclusive deal is quite possible, the Nokia-Zeiss and Sony-Zeiss partnerships are just one example.
