Canalys: Samsung sees record 76.5 million smartphone global shipments in Q1

Over 347 million smartphones were shipped in Q1 according to the global smartphone analysis report from Canalys. The figure represents a 27% increase compared to the same period last year. Samsung is yet again the runaway leader with 76.5 million shipments and a 22% market share. Apple comes in second with 52.4 million sales while holding 15% of the market. Xiaomi rounds off the top-three with its own single-quarter record 49 million shipments and a 14% market share.

The pandemic, ravaging the world in the past year, has shut down many events and pushed companies to think of new ways to introduce products to the consumers.

Spotify now has 158 million paying customers, launches podcast subscription feature

Spotify has now reached 158 million paying customers. The music streaming leader grew in Q1 – 3% in total customers over Q4, 2% in paying customers over Q4 and 21% year over year. Revenue grew 16%.

Spotify projects it will reach beyond 162 million paying users soon, despite the recently announced price increases in the US, UK and Europe – $1 increase for US Family customers, £1 increase for UK Student and Duo users, £2 for Family users. EU customers will see an increase of €1 per Student and Duo account and €3 for Family accounts.
