Sony brought its smartphone lineup for an entire year in a single announcement this week and there are things we want to talk about.

Welcome to another week’s recap. The biggest story of the week was Sony’s triple announcement. The Japanese company unveiled the make III revisions of its Xperia 1, 5 and 10 smartphones, which will come to market in early summer.

The Xperia 1 III and 5 III both feature identical camera systems, which include three 12MP cameras with PDAF and OIS, covering the wide, ultrawide and telephoto range. The latter is a first of its kind with a variable focal length of 70mm and 105mm from a single sensor. That translates to around 2.9x to 4.4x zoom.

When it comes to phones, Sony follows the beat of a different drummer – months after the first Snapdragon 888 flagships hit the market, the Japanese tech giant announced that it will release its own flagships in early summer.

Weekly poll results: the new Nokias fail to excite, but a couple show a glimmer of potential

Last week’s poll shows that the six new Nokia models didn’t cause excitement – and maybe they weren’t supposed to, sometimes boring is good. The X-series have a chance chance to position themselves as phones that “just work” for three years, which is exactly what some people want.

Of course, few of the “just works” crowd will read this or have voted in the poll. The Nokia X20 did manage to carve out a niche for itself, so this could make a solid mom and pop phone. However, the pricing is going to be an issue.
